1.The short version
This website does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not use third-party analytics that follow you across sites. Because we only use storage that is strictly necessary for the site to work, UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, PECR) does not require us to show you a cookie banner, so we do not.
2.What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. “Similar technologies” include session storage, a small space in your browser that is wiped when you close the tab. Both can be used for good reasons (remembering you are logged in) or bad ones (following you around the web). We only use them for the first kind.
3.What this website stores
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ng_attr | Session storage | Remembers the page you arrived on and any campaign tags in the link you followed, so we can tell which of our own adverts or articles brought people to a purchase. | Until you close the tab |
| ng_checks | Session storage | Counts how many free food checks you have made on the home page. | Until you close the tab |
| ng_exit_shown | Session storage | Makes sure the “before you go” message shows at most once. | Until you close the tab |
| ng_quiz_seen | Session storage | Lets the quiz skip an animation you have already watched. | Until you close the tab |
None of these identify you, and none are sent to advertising companies.
4.Page statistics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a handful of funnel events (for example “checkout started”). It is cookieless: it does not store anything in your browser and does not create a profile of you. It records the page, the referring site, your country, and your browser type, and discards your IP address after a short-lived, anonymised visitor count. We cannot identify you from it, and we do not try to.
5.Cookies set by other companies
- Stripe. When you pay, you are taken to a page run by Stripe, our payment provider. Stripe sets its own cookies there for security and fraud prevention. These are strictly necessary for taking a payment and are covered by Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Fonts and images are served from our own hosting, so no font or image provider learns what you read.
If we ever add a tool that needs consent, for example advertising measurement, we will ask you first with a clear choice, and update this page.
6.Controlling storage in your browser
You can clear or block storage in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work, although the free check counter will reset. Instructions: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge.
For how we handle personal information more generally, see our privacy policy.
