The agreement between you and us when you buy a Food Made Clear guide or use this website. Written in plain English, with your statutory rights intact.

1.Who we are

Food Made Clear is a trading name of Digital Crown Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16376887. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

You can contact us by email at support@foodmadeclear.co.uk or by phone on +44 20 3953 5727 or 020 7167 9518. We answer within 2 working days.

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Digital Crown Ltd, and “you” means the person buying or using our guides. These terms apply to every purchase made through this website and to your use of the website itself. By placing an order you agree to them.

2.What you are buying

Every Food Made Clear guide is digital content. Nothing is posted to you. Each guide bundle contains:

  • a food guide as a PDF, covering the everyday foods in our database and how each one is rated for the condition or conditions you chose;
  • a printable Fridge Finder as a PDF;
  • a food lookup web page you can open on a phone or computer.

Ready-made guides cover the conditions named on their product page. Build My Guide orders are created for the conditions, kidney-disease stage and food allergies you tell us at checkout, so they are made to your specification.

Our guides are educational information, not medical advice. They do not diagnose, treat or replace the advice of your GP, dietitian or care team. Please read our medical disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.

3.Ordering and payment

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include any VAT that applies. The price you pay is the price shown when you place your order. We may change prices at any time, but changes do not affect orders already placed.

Payment is taken by Stripe, our payment provider. We never see or store your full card number. Your order is accepted when Stripe confirms your payment and we send you an order confirmation email. If we cannot accept an order (for example because of a pricing error or a payment that fails), we will tell you and will not charge you.

You must be at least 18 to buy from us. You may buy a guide for someone else, but you are responsible for having their permission to give us their health information (see our privacy policy).

4.Delivery

Ready-made guides are delivered immediately after payment: your download page opens straight away and the same link is emailed to you. Build My Guide orders are generated for you after payment, which usually takes a few minutes; we email you the moment the files are ready.

Your download link is valid for 14 days and allows up to 20 downloads of the PDFs. The food lookup link keeps working after that. If your link has expired, or you have lost the email, contact us and we will send a fresh one at no charge.

If we are unable to deliver your guide for any reason, we will refund you in full.

5.Cancellation and refunds

Our full policy is set out in Refunds & cancellations. In short:

  • Our promise: if the guide is not right for you, email us within 14 days of purchase and we refund you in full. No questions asked.
  • Your legal rights: under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have a 14-day right to cancel a digital content purchase. By asking us to deliver immediately you agree that delivery starts within the cancellation period, which ends your statutory right to cancel once the download begins. Our 14-day promise above still applies in full.
  • Faulty content: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If it is not, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

6.Your licence to use the guides

When you buy a guide we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download, print and use it for your own household’s personal, non-commercial use. You may print as many copies as you need for your home and share your Fridge Finder with the people who cook for you.

You may not sell, rent, lend, publish, upload to a shared drive, or otherwise distribute the guides or any part of them, use them in a professional or clinical service, or remove any notice they contain. Healthcare professionals and organisations who would like to use our materials with patients or clients should see our professionals page or contact us.

All intellectual property in the guides, the website, our food database, ratings, text, designs and images belongs to us or our licensors. Nutrient values come from public databases, which we credit in each guide and in our methodology; naming a database does not imply its endorsement of us.

7.Accuracy, updates and limitations

We build our guides carefully from published UK clinical guidance and public nutrient databases, and we describe how in How we build the guides. But guidance changes, foods vary between brands and recipes, and your own needs depend on your blood results, medicines and stage of condition. We cannot guarantee that every rating suits your individual circumstances.

Each guide is a snapshot of our data at the time it was generated. We may improve our data and methods over time; this does not oblige us to update guides already delivered, though we may offer updates.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, because our guides are information for general awareness and are not a substitute for professional care, we are not liable for decisions you make about your diet, medication or treatment, and our total liability to you in connection with any order is limited to the price you paid for it. We are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses.

8.Using this website

You may use this website for lawful personal purposes. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of it, introduce malicious code, scrape or bulk-download our content, or use the free tools (such as the food lookup) to build a competing database.

We try to keep the website available and accurate but do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Links to other sites (for example the NHS) are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

Our privacy policy and cookie policy explain how we handle information when you use the site.

9.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when the law or our products change. The version in force when you place an order is the one that applies to that order. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed.

10.Law, disputes and complaints

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your local courts, and you keep any protections of the law where you live that cannot be taken away by contract.

If something goes wrong, please tell us first: our complaints page explains how, and we aim to put things right quickly. If you remain unhappy you may also contact Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk, 0800 144 8848) for free, independent advice.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
